Puzzle Poem

Arriving home tired and weary, the boat captain said
“This trip was rough! One day it grew calm and eerie,
then came a monstrous storm. We’d all be dead
except for my captaining ability being so superior.”
His wife replied “I’m glad bad luck missed ya again.”
“The storm threw us behind schedule, wouldn’t you know.
I had to keep after the crew, urging them to hurry on,
but all came out fine.” “Well, Hon, there you go!”

So, dear reader, what waters were this captain plying on his trip?
